Syrian regime extends aerial campaign on Eastern and Western suburbs

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime on Monday has extended its aerial campaign on the Eastern and Western suburbs of Damascus, causing huge blazes in Douma city, Civil Defense said.

The relentless bombing on Rural Damascus has followed Daraya's capture in September.  Activists said Bashar al-Assad backed by key ally Russia wants Damascus a rebel-free area.

The shelling and artillery have pounded Douma, Shafouniya, Tel Kurdi, Rihan, Erbin, Khan al-Sheeh, Deir Khabiya, Hama and Qudsaya during the past days.

8 fires broke out in civil neighborhoods in Douma late on Sunday due to three air strikes, the rescuing group said.

About half million people have been living under siege in rebel-held Damascus suburbs. The Assad regime reached fragile truces in some districts while other districts still under the control of Jaish al-Islam, and small pockets under the Islamic State control.
