Syrian engineer wins Forbes Award for best promising project

(Eqtsad)- Salim Akil, a Syrian Engineer has won “Forbes Award” for the best promising project in the middle East 2016 for his "MINA network", the Business to Business (B2B) company that is specialized in online marketing.

The network is based in Dubai, considered as one of the biggest electronic market place for wholesale to companies of the middle East and North Africa.

The idea of the company started in 2007, when Akil was studying in University of Mamoon in Aleppo, but its activities were restricted to Syria, but when he moved to Beirut then to Dubai where it was registered in 2014, it spread in other Arabic countries and North Africa.


“Forbes would’ve not given us the prize if they had not done the required check from customers’ satisfaction”, the engineer of Communication Technology explained.

He added that the recent unusual circumstances Syrians are going through make any achievement of one of them unique and seen as big achievement, because they prove their ability to cope and strongly enter all fields of life and business.

“however, being a Syrian was an obstacle for me and prevented me from benefiting of the many commercial opportunities in USA and Europe due to difficulties in obtaining visa”, he added.

In the same time, Akil expressed his regret to the situation Syrian reached to. He confirmed that recent condition in the country prevent him from investing in it. “but as soon as the war stops, my company would be their to serve my country in general and Aleppo in particular”.
