2 Turkish security forces killed in clashes with ISIS cell in Gaziantep

(Zaman al-Wasl)- Two Turkish security forces killed in clashes with 4 Syrian men affiliated ISIS in border city of Gaziantep, sources said Sunday.

Turkish media sources told Zaman al-Wasl the clash happened on the background of information obtained by Turkish authorities related to an ISIS cell. 

The Turkish security force stormed the place of the cell near Sahha restaurant in the university area and clashed with the cell consisting from 4 persons where they arrested 3 from the cell and the fourth ran away carrying an explosive belt.

The sources denied that an explosion happened in the place during the clashes pointing out that what residents heard was only sound bombs.

Community sources told Zaman al-Wasl that Turkish security forces launched an arrest campaign in Syrian ranks in the area in conjunction with inspecting the buildings near the place in search for the fourth member in the cell.

The sources added that the place where the four Syrian men were taking residence is an educational institute used as a prayer place on Fridays.

It should be noted it is the not the first time the Turkish security storms sleeper cells suspected to be affiliated with ISIS. Few months ago, “Emir of Antep province” was arrested in a similar operation. ISIS had targeted Gaziantep with several blasts including Kurdish wedding blast in the city which killed and injured tens of civilians.
