Brother of Berlin terror suspect says 'Jaber never been a terrorist and killed in detention'

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Brother of Jaber Al-Bakr, the Syrian refugee accused of planning a terror attack in Berlin, has accused German newspapers and media of fabricating facts and defaming his brother’s reputation by accusing him of being terrorist and claiming that he has hung himself in prison.

Alaa al-Bakr, Jaber’s brother, rejected the story told by German Authority about the death of his brother by killing himself in prison after arresting him, and accusing him of planning for terrorist acts in Germany. He held them responsibility for hiding facts after inability to find evidence for accusing his brother of terrorism.

Al-Bakr revealed that he is planning to sue the German Authority according to the German and European law. He asked all the humanitarian bodies to work to discover facts behind his brother’s death.

“the German Authority created my brother’s story for political and electoral benefits”, al-Bakr said. He denied any connection between his brother and the Islamic State. Insisting that his brother is innocent of accusation he faced.

Al-Bakr explained that the German Authority’s story is incomplete and lack logic evidence. He wondered about the evidence like a picture for the explosives claimed to find in Jaber’s house.

He added: “if my brother is a terrorist as the Authority claimed, where is his personal weapon? How was he arrested without any attempt to defend himself, moreover, the authority found no arms in his house.

Alaa al-Bakr continued wondering about the medical report of his brother condition soon after arresting him, as he was bleeding and unconscious. “I expect that he killed the moment he was arrested, but the story of suicide was created to cover up killing him.”

In the end, al-Bakr asked to provide a picture of his brother the moment he was found hung in prison and the method of suicide. “I know that prisoners are stripped of all means they can use to hurt themselves”

Jaber al-Bakr, 22-year-old, Syrian from the countryside of Damascus, studied two years in University in electrical Power engineering.

He sought asylum in Germany 2014, he left and went back to Syria and worked with the “white Helmets”, then he went back to Germany, in February 2015. In recent months, he was put under surveillance by German authorities, On Friday October 7th, they raided his home in Chemnitz, where it claimed to have found explosive material. But al-Bakr had escaped. Police alerted the public and for two days over the weekend they searched for him. Then on Monday morning, a Syrian man showed up at a police station with a cell phone picture of al-Bakr bound in the man’s apartment.

Al-Bakr was taken to a cell in Leipzig, where he was placed on suicide watch, but still he was able to kill himself. A guard found his body at about 7:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

The very next day, German politicians and lawyers demanded answers as to why Jaber al-Bakr, the suspect in a plot to bomb a Berlin airport, was able to hang himself to death inside his jail cell.

Al-Bakr’s state-appointed lawyer, Alexander Hübner, called his suicide a “justice scandal,”according to Deutsche Welle.
