Regime seeks new forced displacement for people of Deir Khabiya


(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian regime is planning to evacuate the town of Deir-Khobiya in the countryside of Damascus and displace its people as part of the demographic changes planned around Damascus city, after finishing the compulsory displacement from the capital suburbs of Qudsaya, Daraya and al-Hama, activists said.

The Syrian regime’s forces have controlled the town of Deir Khobiya in Western Ghouta of Damascus after implementing the scorched land policy for days, which forced most of people to leave the town before invading it by the regime’s forces.

Activists reported that Sunday had witnessed bombing of more than 100 ground-ground missiles, 1500 shells and 65 explosive barrels.

The town of Deir Khobiya has strategic position benefiting the Syrian regime, as it is the connection point for both towns of Zakya and Khan al-Shih, it is situated at the route connecting Daraya with Moadamiyah near Damascus. Moreover, it has special geographic aspects and its farms adjacent to residential areas.

Daraya town was evacuated of its people August 2016, fighters and their families were taken to Idlib. While few days ago, Qudsaya followed the fate of Daraya when fighters and their families headed to Idlib under supervision of red crescent.
