(The Daily Star)- The family of a mother and her daughter, who died when the Sidon tour boat they were in capsized last month, dropped their lawsuit against the managers of the boat, a source told The Daily Star Tuesday.
The source said that contacts with the Yassin family had managed to convince them to strike a settlement and drop all charges against the boat’s owner and its skipper.
A Syrian man, Khalil Dakhil, 20, along with Raghida al-Mais and her 13-year-old daughter Hoda Abdul-Razzek Yassin died in hospital from injuries sustained after the boat sunk in September.
Samir Ahmad Yassin, who filed the lawsuit, agreed Tuesday morning during a meeting at the Sidon Mayor Mohammad Saudi's office and in the presence of his lawyer to drop his personal claim in return for LL77,500,000 ($51,409).
Abdul Hamid Kamel al-Adlouni and Kamel Mohammad Ali al-Adlouni, the owner and skipper of the boat, are expected to be released within a few days.
The Dakhil family had made a similar move recently, dropping their lawsuit in return for LL25,000,000 ($16,583).
