Homs: appeals to save people lives in western countryside


Translation from Arabic by Yusra Ahmed- Military and Local councils of al-Zara village near Tal-kalakh appealed to the National Coalition and for all humanitarian organizations to interfere as soon as possible to save thousands of lives of this region.

The appeal, which Zaman Alwasl has obtained a copy of, included description of the disastrous situation in which around 30 thousand residents and displaced people live, explaining that the region is severe siege and isolated from the outer world.

The appeal revealed people are suffering from severe shortage of essential needs like food, medicine and detergents, telecommunication that was deliberately cut by Assad regime,   besides electricity outage, and severe shortage of drinking water.

The two councils confirmed the wide spread in communicable diseases especially among children, Hepatitis in particular, which caused deaths for large number of children. It added that Medicine is not available for many disease especially diabetes and hypertension which require continuous treatment.

The statement said the towns of Al-Zara, al-Hosragiyeh, al-Shawahid, and al-Hosn citadel have been suffering a fierce siege by the Syrian Regime, since the beginning of Ramadan in July till now. The area is completely isolated from the outer world. There are around 30 thousand people live in 4 regions, most of them in al-Zara and al-Hosragiyeh villages where they shelter 25 thousand people.

Most people suffer from severe shortage of essential needs of living, like food, medicine and detergents. Communications are intentionally off and electricity is off most of the time, and there is significant shortage of drinking water, they said.

Recently, wide spread in communicable diseases especially among children, Hepatitis in particular, which caused deaths for large number of children. Medicine is not available for many disease especially diabetes and hypertension which require continuous treatment.

The current situation in extremely bad in the region, people and especially children are at risk of dying from hunger or illnesses, not to that regime has not stopped bombing or shelling around the clock, which target civilians most of the time.
