People of Eastern Aleppo not trusting Assad regime, fear arrest if they leave

Reporting by Ammar Bakkour

(Zaman Al Wasl)- people in Eastern Aleppo refused to leave to regime-controlled neighbourhoods via passages connecting the sides of the city determined by the regime and Russia in a single-sided truce announced by regime starts Thursday, October 20, for three days.

Movement at the barrier of ticket-booking station in Bostan al-Qasr and Jandool roundabout were too limited with no changes compared to previous days. Moreover, the barrier that connect the rebel-controlled neighbourhood of Bostan al-Qasr and regime-controlled neighbourhood of al-Masharqa has witnessed clashed with heavy arms resulted in injuring 3 civilians targeted by regime’s snipers spread over Jabal al-Iza’a.

Ahrar al-Sham movement announced stopping an attempt of regime forces to sneak to Bostan al-Qasr, while the barrier of Jandool roundabout had complete quietness.
Zaman al-Wasl correspondent revealed that almost no civilian passed through to regime-controlled areas via the two barriers of Bostan al-Qasr and jandool by the end of the first day of the single-sided truce.

Interfax Russian news agency mentioned that regime security reported their fear that suicide bombers of the Islamic State and Fateh al-Sham front (formerly Nusra Front) could get out the rebel-held side of Aleppo to regime-controlled areas. Therefore, as a precaution, regime' specialised bodies distributed lists of about 45 thousand names of wanted people or who have relation or relatives to members of the Islamic State and Nusra Front to arrest when they enter regime-controlled areas.

Activists denied news broadcasted via news agencies including Reuters which indicated that regime has withdrawn its forces to allow the armed opposition to leave Eastern Aleppo during the 3-day-truce that started Thursday, October 20, at 8:00 am, and ends Saturday at 7:00 pm. Activists stressed that regime has enhanced its security and military forces beside re-spreading snipers over al-Qasr al-Baladi and Jabal al-Iza’a which overlook Bostan al-Qasr.

Staffan De Mistura has announced that the United nation welcomes the single-sided truce which needs to be used to evacuate injured people and those patients who need treatment.

The Syria regime has 2 days ago announced for a 3-day-Humanitarian truce starts October 20, calling all armed formations in Eastern Aleppo to leave arms and take advantage of the remission decision. Residents of Eastern Aleppo did not trust the regime and no one left to regime's areas in the first day, fearing of being arrested.

Especially after news that regime has prepared detention centres in neighbourhoods next to regime-held areas, and spread agents to recognise new faces from rebels to catch and detain them.

It seems that the single-sided humanitarian truce has failed in the first day, as no one in Eastern Aleppo trusted the regime calls, flyers distributed by planes and calls via microphones encouraging people to leave.
