EU funds for refugees live out of Turkish camps to go only for urgent needs

(Eqtsad)- A Turkish official told Eqtsad that EU's funds allocated to help Syrian refugees who live out of Turkish camps will go only for Syrians in urgent need.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said several meetings have been held so far to prepare the necessary mechanisms to distribute the new assistance, specify the application locations and study the applications.

The Turkish official, who works in one of the directorates in a southern Turkish province, expected the registration of applications for assistance to begin a no more than 15 days in locations specified by the directorates for social assistance and solidarity.

The Turkish official said that 100 Turkish Lira will be distributed to each family member on a monthly basis. A family consisting of 5 members will receive 500 Turkish Lira per month. The Turkish official indicated that this financial assistance is distinct from the electronic cards presented by the Turkish Red Crescent to many Syrians in the southern provinces. He clarified that there will be coordination with the Turkish Red Crescent for the aid to arrive to the Syrian recipients.

The Turkish official added that the priority will be to distribute the assistance to impoverished Syrians after studying their application, and so Syrians who are financially well off will not deserve the assistance.

Turkish takes the lead in the world regarding the number of refugees it hosts as it hosts around 3 million refugees among them 2.7 million Syrians around 12% of the total population of Syrian before the war.
