Islam Army kills 20 regime soldiers in Eastern Ghouta

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Powerful Jaish al-Islam on Wednesday has killed 20 regime troops in the besieged Eastern Ghouta suburbs after targeting the regime bastions in Tel Kurdi area, the group said in statement posted online.

8 rebel fighters were also killed in the attack, 4 from the Islam Army and 4 from its ally Alwyat al-Majd, or the Glory Brigades.

 Jaish al-Islam added that members of Glory Brigades, a recently announced revolutionary formation were aggressively engaged in the fight.

Jaish al-Islam said that the military coordination with the rest of the factions wanting to fight continues, especially as the eastern suburb’s fronts have been active since 5 months.

In a related context, Abu Musa al-Ashari brigade and Oum al-Qoura brigade included under the al-Rahman Corps announced their separation from the Corps in the past twenty-four hours.

Oum al-Qoura brigade released a statement that, “due to conflicts within al-Rahman Corps at the level of the command regarding fighting, the fall of cities and towns in al-Ghouta, Oum al-Quora brigade announces its withdrawal from al-Rahman Corps.”

The withdrawals coincided with the announcement of the formation of the Glory Brigades whose members are dissidents from al-Rahman Corps in addition to some dissident officers and soldiers. Yet, Oum al-Quora brigade has formed Saraya al-Sham as a new entity for it.

Al-Rahman Corps said in a statement that the dissident members are accused of attempting to assassinate the commanders of al-Rahman Corps in one of the headquarters in Hamouriyah in the eastern Ghouta.

The Corps explained in the statement that following an investigation it became apparent that some members of the Corps were involved in the assassination attempt. After the revelation, some of the scholars and sheikhs of al-Ghouta, and some revolutionary actors from Hamouriyah town intervened. Following many promises to hand those involved over to justice and the return of the others to the ranks of the Corps, the dissidents announced their separation from al-Rahman Corps in the name of Abi Musa al-Ashari brigade to cover up for those involved in the assassination attempt.
