Rebel leaders and activists in Damascus countryside appealed through
Zaman Alwasl for all battalions and FSA brigades to defend the Syrian capital
suburbs and to break out the siege of Ghouta towns.
Yesterday, Assad army troops and Shia fighters loyal to President
Bashar al-Assad captured two southern suburbs of Damascus, killing at least 70
people, opposition activists said to Reuters.
Col.Ebrahim al-Heboos, rebels commander in Damascus suburbs, said;
'' loss of Al-Sayyedah Zeinab town and its surrounding villages is big threat
to other rebel-held areas in Damascus which we paid a price in blood to control
it.
The Assad fighters, including some from the Lebanese Shia movement
Hezbollah and Iraqi Shias backed by Syrian army tanks, searched al-Thiabiya and
Husseiniya, a Palestinian refugee camp, for pockets of resistance after
overrunning them, Reuters said.
The capture of the two districts, located between the two main
highways leading to Jordan, strengthens Assad's hold on major supply lines and
puts pressure on rebel brigades under siege for months in areas adjacent to the center of Damascus.
