Fateh al-Sham Front vows Aleppo siege lift, Assad's defeat: commander

Reporting by Ahmed Primo

ALEPPO (Zaman Al Wasl)- Poweful Fateh al-Sham front vowed to break siege of  the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo, and to continue its fighting against the regime forces and allied militias, saying the ongoing battle is the most crucial one in northern Syria, commander told Zaman al-Wasl on Monday.

Fateh al-Sham explained that the battle is difficult, because it is not just against the Syrian regime, but it is against Russia and allied militias supported by Iran.

Jabhat Fateh al-Sham promised people in Aleppo of good outcomes, according to Abo Anas al-Shami, member of the media office of Fateh al-Sham, who in his talk to Zaman al-Wasl explained: “the Syrian resistance factions have achieved in the first stage of Martyr Abo Omar Saraqib battle good results after controlling the project of 1070 flat, Cartoon factory, Minyan Sawmill, Minyan village, and factories and farms around it, added to al-Assad suburb, within 72 hours.

Al-Shami confirmed that the second stage would have big surprises against the regime and allied militias, which would bring relief to Aleppo’s people under siege.

In regard to losses of the Syrian regime during the first stage, al-Shami detailed: “ breaking siege over Aleppo is no doubt great battle, we have given dozens of martyrs and suicide bombers, our enemy losses dozens even hundreds of its soldiers each stage, we have captured 20 members of the regime, and killed 100 of Hezbollah members, about wounded, they are uncountable.”

He added that many tanks were destroyed, and gained dozens of them because they leave then and run away.

Jabhat Fateh al-Sham has targeted a military convoy of the regime army an allied militias, coordinating with Ahrar al-Sham movement, as al-Shami confirmed that they are together in the same side against the Syrian regime.

In regard to goals of the battle of Martyr Abo Omar Saraqib, al-Shami explained that it aimed to break siege over Eastern neighbourhood of Aleppo.

He did not excluded moving to the stage of liberating all Aleppo, and that would be decided by the development of the battle.

Jabhat Fateh al-Sham is participating with many factions, supported by lots of tanks, and many car bombs targeting regime sites, to break though its forces to reach to areas under siege and liberate others from regime’s control.

The resistance factions aim to break a siege that regime and allied Shiite militias imposed this summer with air support from the Russian air force. The eastern districts of Aleppo have been subjected to a fierce bombardment since the army declared an offensive to capture the area last month.

On Sunday,  the resistance forces have recaptured ground lost to regime army and allied militias early Sunday in the battleground city, local reporter said.

The Jaish al-Fateh-led forces opened a new front in the city as fighting spread on the third day of a major counter-attack to break the regime's siege on the eastern neighborhoods.

Jaish al Fateh said in a statement they were now moving into a second stage of the offensive after taking several areas with the goal of "ending the siege".

They called on residents of regime-held areas in western Aleppo to stay at home or in underground shelters as they spread their offensive, saying they were coming to "liberate" their land. They urged the fighters not to harm anyone who did not carry arms.

Aleppo, Syria's most populous city before the war, has for years been split between a government-held western sector and the rebel-held east, which the army and its allies managed to put under siege this summer.
