Regime forces broke into Tartus Prison, inmates wounded: source

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime forces on Monday broke into the central prison of the coastal city of Tartus, wounding dozens of inmates who revolted two days ago against death sentences, sources said.

The prison uprising broke out in protest against the execution of political inmate. The inmate took full control of the jail before being stormed by regime special police units.

The central prison is located within Tartus city, and it is a building composed of three floors. Around 800 detainees and arrested persons are held in the prison, of them over 400 are political prisoners and among the political prisoners 150 are from the city of Banias.

On Saturday, the regime forces surrounded the prison, refusing to abide by inmates demands of  fair trial or release.

The detainees conditioned their ending the deadlock on the regime halting all executions of death sentences, not referring any of their cases to the military field court in Damascus, and improving the conditions of their detention.

Between March 2011 and the end of 2015, the Syrian Network for Human Rights documented the arrest and detention of more than 117,000 people.
