Live TV report interrupted by major explosions

A Syrian newsreader carried on broadcasting live despite two bombs exploding behind him.

A startled Syrian television presenter kept his show going after two car bombs went off behind him before finally being told to abandon his seat.

The devices exploded near the state television building in central Damascus, sending shockwaves through the area. After the first, lesser, explosion, the newsreader flinched but continued with his bulletin.

After the second bigger blast he lost his compusure but still tried to carry on, before apparently receiving a message in his earpiece to get out of the glass-walled studio.

The SANA news agency said state TV's headquarters in Umayyad Square was damaged in the blast, which it said was caused by suicide bombers. A state television reporter said a concrete barrier outside the station had been damaged but the facility was largely intact.

The attack came as gunmen abducted six Red Cross workers and a Syrian Red Crescent volunteer after stopping their convoy in northwestern Syria.
