Israeli food sold in regime-controlled part of Hasaka

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Israeli food is being sold in markets of Hasaka city, that is mutually controlled by the Syrian regime and the Kurdish Democratic union Party (PYD), local sources mentioned. 

ZAMAN AL-Wasl correspondent in Hasaka mentioned that no information is available about the source of that Israeli food products or how it reached to the market, whether it was imported by traders, or within the humanitarian aid provided via Iraqi Kurdistan, as the only access to Hasaka city is via the crossing point near the village of Tonisa in Malkiyah. 

An Israeli activist confirmed that the products are from Israel and they are produced by a company called “Tomer”, which produces “spaghetti” and adverts of the same products are presented in ÷Israeli daily newspapers.

A teacher talked to Zaman Al Wasl on condition of anonymity said that people have considered the matter of selling Israeli products in Hasaka’s markets nothing more rumours. “But I have seen them being sold in a stall in street in regime-controlled part of Hasaka city when I was there sorting out some issues”. 

The teacher mentioned the discrepancy he noticed when he saw the Israeli food, as it was sold in so-called resistance area, in a street called Palestine, in November 2, the same day of Balfour Declaration that announced Palestine as the national home for Jews.

Abo Alaa from Ras al-Ain, northern countryside of Hasaka mentioned that he had seen these kind of spaghetti sold in a stall in Hasaka, and he noticed their low price at 125 Syrian pound compared to 300-500 Syrian pound for the Turkish and Syrian ones. He bought them, but was surprised when he saw them on social media warning that they were Israeli. 

Tomer is a food trading and marketing company since 1983, all writing identifying the company on the products' boxes were in Hebrew, and they export products all over the world, and all products are made according to Jewish law and approval of the Chief Rabbinate in Israel. 

Hasaka province is controlled by many forces, military arm of Democratic Union Party control the widest area, while the regime controls the security square in the city, and the Islamic State controlled the town of Markada, its last stronghold in the city.
