(Eqtsad)- Negotiation between the Syrian regime and opposition factions in Khan al-Shih camp are ongoing after heavy military campaign by the regime for months, sources revealed.
During the military campaign, regime has recaptured the village of Deir Khobuyah next to Khan al-Shih, besides controlling al-Mahjorah battalion in the camp added to the town of Zakya, the last supply route to Khan al-Shih.
Nazir Omar, an activist from inside the camp reported that negotiations are still on between the regime and rebels, to either reach to an agreement or settlement, or leaving the camp or continue clashes, but the most recent leaked information suggested that rebels and their families could leave to Idlib conditionally.
The activist mentioned that rebels suggested leaving Khan al-Shih to Daraa, but the regime rejected that suggestion and insisted on Idlib as a destination.
The source expected that most likely scenario would be leaving to Idlib, due to hard living conditions of the camp because of siege besides the military attack by regime and recapturing many of rebels’ sites, added to hundreds of barrel bombs hit the camp within the last few days.
“For example, this Sunday almost 35 barrels were thrown on the Khan al-Shih”, the activist said.
Mahmood al-Masri, member of Zakya coordination reported that a delegation of Khan al-Shih’s rebels has met with regime’s representative to discuss the situation in the area, but no information has been given to them.
Eqtsad tried to contact the negotiation delegation, to have any update, but all attempts ended in vain.
People in Kiswa town, southern of Damascus, reported that situation in the area in vague in general.
Abo al-Ezz from Khan al-Shih mentioned that negotiations has been postponed due to rebels’ rejection to regime’s suggestion, but he thought that Northern of Syria is the area of choice for rebels like what happened to rebels of Daraya, Moadamiyah and al-Hama.
Arabic-speaking, Iranian Fars news agency reported that many meetings took place between the regime military operations’ commanders from one side, and representatives of opposition faction on the other, in order to evacuate Khan al-Shih, Zakya, Mokailbiyah, al-Tiba, al-Husseiniyah and Kiswa Eastern farms, expecting that the operation would be completed by Sunday, unless urgent matter happened.
the agency mentioned that the only points of contention are the destination of rebels after leaving Khan al-Shih following handing their heavy arms and ammunition stores, besides providing regime with mine maps the opposition put around the area.
There are 13 thousand civilians in Khan al-Shih, and hundreds of rebels came from different area around.
The area is almost completely besieged, activists mentioned that essential needs have run out added to soar prices.
People in Khan al-Shih camp suffer of consequences of siege and lack job opportunity, as there is no source for income for the majority of families, apart from some aid delivered from time to time. Moreover, there is no bakery, and only one Pharmacy, almost empty apart from some analgesics.
