U.S. delivers more weapons to Kurdish militias as Raqqa battle nears

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The United States sent on Saturday a convoy of trucks shipping weapons and ammunition from Kurdistan region in Iraq to Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) controlled areas in Hasaka days after American jets dropped weapons and ammunition to the forces led by the party north of Raqqa.

Activist Mahmoud al-Ahmad said the convoy was shipping heavy weapons including tanks, artillery, and military armored vehicles which arrived on Saturday evening in Qamishli city coming from Kurdistan region in Iraq.

Al-Ahmad added that the convoy also included fuel tanks and ammunition which are likely heading to Raqqa, which its northern countryside witnesses battles between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia led by (PYD) and between ISIS a week ago. Al-Ahmad pointed out that (PYD) armed men celebrated the arrival of the convoy through a water crossing point on Tigris River near al-Tunsiye village and shot in the air in celebration.

(PYD) supporting pages on Facebook had published a 25-mins footage on November 8 showing jets. They said the jets are for the International Coalition alliance against ISIS dropping shipments of weapons and ammunition over the (SDF) militia controlled areas.

In Raqqa northern countryside, (SDF) armed men captured the villages of al-Sheikh Hasan, Saran, al-Ghazli on al-Baleekh river following battles with ISIS supported by aerial coverage by the International Coalition, according to (PYD) Hawar news agency.

Local activists from Khaneez area told Zaman al-Wasl the fighting in 8th day of North Raqqa battle took place on al-Baleekh eastern axis in Khaneez villages where the American backed forces captured the villages of Khaneez Shamali and Khaneez Wastani and the battles moved to Khaneez Janubi village before ISIS exploded a car bomb in the advancing forces.

The sources added that the American backed forces capture of Khaneez Janubi will open the road to move to the western bank of al-Baleekh river via a road and a bridge connecting it to al-Taula village north of Tal al-Saman town, the most important target for these forces after capturing al-Heesha village last Friday.

Also, violent clashes took place near al-Hayawi village between the two parties where ISIS targeted locations of (SDF) with artillery from its locations in al-Hamoud village according to the activists.
