Homs: rebels hit regime-held neighborhood, 4 people killed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime's aerial bombing on central Homs province has halted the delivery of U.N. aid to the besieged Rastan town and neighboring villages, local a activists said Monday.

Syrian rebels, in response to Waer bombing, have pounded the predominantly Alawite district of al-Zahraa with rocket-propelled grenades, killing 4 people and wounding 8 more.

Al- Zahraa considered as one of the most important areas to provide regime forces with personnel distributed between National Defense Militia (NDF) to intelligence and army.

Media activist Yarub Abu al-Izz said to Zaman al-Wasl that regime warplanes targeted al-Ghantou town on Sunday with KS5 rockets and mortars and rocket launchers preventing the passing of UN aid convoy to besieged al-Rastan city.

He added it’s the second time in a row where regime forces and warplanes prevent entrance of humanitarian aid convoys to the besieged city.

Regime air raids came in conjunction with arrival of UN and Syrian Red Crescent delegates to the earth embankment allocated for entrance of aids for most of towns in northern countryside.

Abu al-Izz confirmed that regime has followed the same method last September where regime bombed the road which UN convoy uses after IRCC delegates arrived at the earth embankment from Tir Malaa cross point adjacent to al-Ghantou.

He indicated that al-Rastan city and neighboring villages in which more than 100000 live have not received any aid convoys except twice this year whereas UN convoys entered the rest of areas in the northern countryside for 4 or 5 times.

He said the besieged people in al-Rastan were counting on the entrance of the convoy to help them in the crisis they have been enduring for 4 years.

Zaman al-Wasl knew that the convoy which was supposed to enter includes 74 trucks carrying food baskets, flour, hygiene products, tents and clothes and medical supplies.
