7000 people flee homes as blazes sweep forests of Latakia: sources

(Zaman Al Wasl)- More than 35 fires have broken out in forests of the coastal Latakia and Tartus provinces since Saturday, and dozens are still on till writing the news. And between an hour and another, another fire starts, as the dry weather helped in spreading fire.

Fire brigade in Latakia, Tartus and Banyas started working on turning fire off only the following day of fires' breaking-out, and now they announced their inability to control fires. Moreover, they requested residents to help them the task, besides distributing information about methods to deal to smoke and fire.

Special sources estimated that almost 1000 acres of fields and forest have became complete ashes, which is 3 times the area announced by the government.

The source reported to Zaman al-Wasl that more than 7000 people especially at the outskirt of Qardaha were forced to leave their houses, besides some other areas in the countryside of Latakia and Tartus after reaching the fire to houses.

Regime-loyalists accused Shabiha, security forces and wood traders of intentionally starting the fire, or at least covering up the real culprit.

Moreover, regime loyalist have expressed their anger via social media for bot being able to control fire, criticizing that the regime has warplanes to throw barrel bombs, but no helicopter to be used for controlling fires.

Moreover, regime-loyal Facebook pages called residents to participate in controlling fire as the fire brigades have been unable to do so. Added to that, they requested people to observe roads and small routes to forests and prevent any stranger from entering villages without inspection, as they accused the opposition of initiating fires after they failed to defeat the Syrian regime in many battles.
