Brazil president's ally resigns amid corruption scandal

A prominent Brazilian government minister resigned on Friday in a corruption scandal reportedly implicating President Michel Temer.

"I am asking to be relieved of my position," government secretary Geddel Vieira Lima said in a letter published in the media.

Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported on Thursday that former culture minister Marcelo Calero had told police Temer pressured him to intervene in a business deal involving Vieira Lima. Temer denied the allegation.
