(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Head of the Syrian Tribal Committee, al-Sheikh Thamir Moutab al-Shalash, confirmed that the regime is trying to replicate the Iraqi experience by forming The People's Mobilization Forces from mercenary in the Syrian Jazira area.
A group of tribal members from its eastern area, politicians and revolutionary actors consider the regime seeks to bring the sectarian Popular Mobilization militia ( al-Hashd al-Shaabi) to the area close to Iraq.
Al-Shalash said to Zaman al-Wasl, “The regime is aware of the similarity in social components between Iraq and the eastern area, and in Deir Ez Zor especially, so it began organizing meetings to establish ‘The Mobilizations of al-Jazira and the Euphrates’.” He explained that the meeting included a number of mercenaries working under the instruction of Hadiya Abbas, the People’s Council member, and members of her family. The regime was sure to incorporate important local figures from well-known tribes to given legitimacy to the meeting.
Al-Shalash considered the meeting a charade prepared by the regime to recruit fighters and entice them financially and morally to establish an army of mercenaries with the excuse of regaining the areas under Islamic State control. Al-Shalash pointed out that the regime choosing the name Popular Mobilization indicated its traditional view that the eastern areas have not changed, and it is, “A view of hatred and inferiority, as he has marginalized it for the past four decades of tyrannical rule, and it only witnessed the building of universities in the last period.”
In the same context, a group of tribal members in the eastern area, local revolutionary actors, and politicians issued a statement regarding the meeting. In the statement they said the meeting to form the ‘Mobilization for al-Jazira and the Euphrates’ militia in Damascus comes as a prelude to this militia entering the eastern area, and it is a step for the arrival of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization militia to the area. The move will mean the area faces a new form of occupation that colludes with the criminal regime which has destroyed livelihoods and progeny, and brought the forces of evil in the world to destroy the Sunni areas of Syria and displace its people.
Abdul Aziz al-Hamdah, the sheikh of the Bakir tribe, read the statement, said that as representatives of the tribes of the eastern areas, the revolutionary movement, and military, they condemn such treacherous meetings, and absolutely refuse them, and they consider any who joins it or supports it to be a traitor to the blood of martyrs and the pillars of the Syrian revolution. He said, “We vow before Allah and the nation to stand a preventative dam before this treacherous meetings, and to counter with determination all those who support it.”
Al-Meydan television channel, close to the regime and Iran, reported of Riyad Arsan, one of the organizers of the Damascus meeting that he said, “This Mobilization will be formed of volunteer fighters from the sons of the Syrian Jazira who are present in other Syrian provinces to fight in Deir Ez Zor, al-Hasakah, and al-Raqqah.”
He added that the alliance of the Kurdish Democratic Syria forces has contradictory aims, among them fighting terrorism and other aims which can be classified as dividing Syria which we refuse.
A group of public figures from Deir Ez Zor living in Damascus called at the start of November for a meeting to announce the formation of an armed militia ‘The Mobilization for al-Jazria and the Euphrates’ with the excuse of fighting terrorism, and the figures belonging to the al-Akiddet, al-Bakara, al-Kharshan, and al-Maamareh tribes attended the meeting.
