(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Palestinian-Syrian Gathering “Masir” has Saturday launched an initiative of “The National Syrian Salvation Initiative open for public discussion” during a discussing meeting in Istanbul.
The initiative consists of critical revision of the Syrian situation as the revolution has entered its sixth year, to diagnose real reason behind the complex crisis of the revolution. Amid the brutal escalation of violence by the Syrian regime and allied forces and Russia and Iran in order to eliminate the revolution and destroy the community. Added to evaluation the international and regional disagreements which had complicated the situation more. Not the forget the effects of Donald Trump’s coming policies on the development of the revolution.
The initiative highlights the importance of diagnosing reasons behind deficiencies of representative forces of the revolution, and considers that correcting the imbalance in the legitimacy of those forces, is the key to increase relying on the Syrian forces and increases the real role of Syrians in resolving the existing conflict according to the revolution’s principles and its democratic project.
In regard to the central idea of the initiative, the lawyer, "Ayman Abu Hashem," general coordinator of “Masir gathering” explained that the initial response to the disruption of the balance of power and rejection of the revolution’s defeat should be via coordination and gathering of all political, military and civil forces believing in revolution, in order to agree on ways to repair the already existing institutions, through forming a national consensus body to encourage Syrians inside Syria and abroad to meet at local and regional levels to form a real representation of Syrians and actively participate in making their national decision.
Abu Hashim explained to Zaman al-Wasl that the proposed national consensus body would not substitute the already existing representative bodies, because it is political nihilism to demand ending already weak representative bodies while there is no stronger alternative to take place. However, there is a need to work on creating a suitable political climate to find an ideal alternative.
In this regard, Abu Hashim called the National Coalition and the Negotiating Body to support forming the National Consensus body advocated by the initiative, and to contribute in holding conferences, because they would be considered as the National Constituent Assembly, which enhances the legitimacy of representation, besides forming a national umbrella uniting the efforts of all Syrians.
In regard to the steps to activate “Masir gathering” Abu Hashim confirmed that the assembly has already begun putting the initiative for debate and national dialogue, as it now has been owned by all power and national figures, moreover, building and improving the idea and clarifying its principle is a general effort needs broad and deep discussion.
We have held several meetings in many places, especially gatherings of Syrians abroad, Turkey in particular, as it is considered the main center of political and civil forces of the revolution. In the same time, committees were formed to introduce the initiative to political, military and civilian bodies inside Syria” he added, explaining that there are initial response but tinged with caution and scepticism, not for this initiative, but for any new suggestion due to the state of despair and a sense of futility after many failed experiments in the past years.
Abu Hashim ended: "Tasks of the initiative are not that easy or simple especially for those who are aware of the challenges and complexities of the situation in Syria, but returning to political consideration is inevitable because it is not restricted to elites or a particular category, but rather as an wide expression about the will of society that carries historical project to change the reality. We must get rid of restricting politics in public relations or media, and reaching to its wide abilities and active dynamics”.
