(Eqtsad)- Head of Local Council in Jarablus city in northern Aleppo province said the council oversees Karakamis border crossing allocated for goods transport in coordination and cooperation with Turkish authorities, pointing out that the decision to increase the classification of the cross point from B to A group will fall into the mutual interests of both sides.
Engineer Mohamed Habash said a huge number of traders informed him of their will to rely on Jarablus cross point as an alternative for Bab al-Hawa and Izaz since the cost in the latter two is higher than Jarablus. He pointed out that he was informed by one trader that those in charge of Izaz cross point charge 2000$ per truck as custom tax whereas 700 Turkish Pound was charged per big truck in Jarablus cross point and 300 TL per small truck.
Habash said the tax money made in the cross point is being deposited in Turkish bank Ziraat in Karakamis for the money to be invested in infrastructure projects in the city.
Habash indicated that most prominent goods entering Syria from the Turkish side are: cement, fertilizers, fruit, vegetables, food items. He disclaimed at the same time presence of trade movement from Syria to turkey since the cross points is not equipped for that so far.
It is worth mentioning that Turkish Ministry of Finance increased the classification of Jarablus trade cross point from B group to A group which upset Turkish officials in Gaziantep province in a step that its consequences are not known yet on trade movement between the two sides.
