Thuwar al-Raqqa group vows to expel ISIS from de-facto capital

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Head of the Political Office of Thuwar al-Raqqa Front Mahmoud al-Hadi said Wednesday the tribesmen group will lead the battle against ISIS to expel it from the center of the province which ISIS controls since January 2014.

Al-Hadi clarified in a statement to Zaman al-Wasl that understandings took place inside the U.S.-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) and the International Coalition that Thwar al-Raqqa will lead the battle against ISIS with fighters from Raqqa population.

Al-Hadi added that Thuwar al-Raqqa Front has fighters who can liberate the city in cooperation with fighters from Raqqa itself. Hence, the front works to facilitate their arrival and arming them. He said, “but this is not enough, the front might need logistical consultancy from other forces.”

He indicated that liberation of Raqqa battle is different from the rest of battles due to the wide geography of Raqqa province. It is likely that the battle will launch from two axes especially north of Euphrates River and from the west. It is also likely that Euphrates Shield forces will participate or other forces like Free Syrian Army, but all is under monitoring of the International Coalition.

Thuwar al-Raqqa Brigade had been absent from the first phase of Euphrates’ Rage battle which was exclusively run by battalions subordinate to Democratic Union Party (PYD) before al-Sanadid militia announced it will participate beside its alley after 10 days from launching the battle.

SDF militia launched on November 6 a major military offensive against ISIS under the name of 'Euphrates Rage'. The battle ended in two weeks with capturing the areas south of Aleppo-Hasaka road until al-Rai channel near Tal al-Saman north or Raqqa city supported by aerial coverage of the International Coalition.
