(Zaman Al Wasl) - Battalion of “Ansar al-Sham, key rebel unit in the coastal Latakia province said Thursday it had merged with powerful Jaish al-Islam rebel group.
The online statement said the new step come in solidarity with people and fighters in Aleppo, and a response to people’s calls to unite forces.
“The war in Levant is most intense, as the terrorists and militias and countries have assailed to exterminate Syrian people because they demanded freedom and dignity.
Children, women and elderly of besieged Aleppo are killed by Russian, Iranian and Assad forces, while the whole world watching without doing anything”, the statement pointed.
The aim of the merge according to the statement aims to cooperate to fight the occupying sectarian militias and mercenaries, and to defend the country, religion and people. It called all fighting factions to take similar steps as soon as possible to unite forces and attitude.
Ansar al-Sham is one of the most important revolutionary forces in the countryside of Latakia, it has a main role in liberating the town of Kasab. It participated in battle of Idlib, North countryside of Hama, Sahl al-Ghab and Jisr al-Shoghor. It previously formed Jaish al-naser with other factions.
Jaish al-Islam is one of the largest rebel faction, it was known as Liwa al-Islam and founded by Zahran Alloush, who was killed in Christmas day 2015, by merging of almost 50 rebel factions September 2013. Its primary base of operations has been in Damascus area, particularly the city of Douma and region of Eastern Ghouta. It was part of the Islamic Front. It has rejected membership of the Free Syrian Army, it aims to create an Islamic state under Sharia law.
