U.S.-backed forces take 10 villages from ISIS in western Raqqa


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took Saturday 10 villages and farms from ISIS near al-Tabaqa in Raqqa province, The U.S.-backed group said in statement.

SDF that led by Democratic Union Party (PYD) siad it had captured villages of Bur Sinjar Shamali, Bur Sinjar Janubi, Sahba, Abu Kalat, Haji Suleyman and Tayasa. Also it captured several farms west of Raqqa city.

The militia indicated in the statement that 366 armed men recruited by the militia from Raqqa population joined the military campaign against ISIS following 20-days training.

A military source confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl that SDF militias with the backup of the International Coalition captured al-Jurneh town and Jaybar village 85 Km west of Raqqa. The source pointed out that the forces now want to captured al-Mahmoudli village and if they do, they will be 15 Km away from Euphrates Dam and 20 Km away from al-Tabaqa city and 50 Km away from Raqqa city.

The militias captured al-Ramleh, Beer Shalal, Abu Hawaya, Abu Radani, Jaber, al-Ahmadiye, and Dukhan villages to be now close to al-Tarqa village after capturing most of the Raqqa-Al-Jarniye road, according to local sources.

The sources added to Zaman al-Wasl that the battles escalated between the US-backed up militias and ISIS in the surrounding of al-Jarniye town amid raids by the International Coalition on ISIS locations, pointing out that hundreds from villages fled the battels between the two sides.

ISIS had announced through Aamaq Agency that more than 20 have been killed and injured from PYD in an ISIS attack on Laqta village northeast Raqqa.

ISIS showed a footage of the destruction of (PYD) car carrying machine-gun. The car was destroyed by a targeted missile in al-Jaabiye village near al-Jarniye town.

SDF launched last week a military campaign against ISIS aiming to capture western countryside of Raqqa city.
