Hasaka: PYD launches arrest campaign for youth fleeing conscription

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) launched on Tuesday raid and arrest campaign chasing young men in Ras al-Ayn area in Hasaka province, local activists said.

Activist Abdulmalek al-Ali from Hasaka Media Center said that PYD patrols and Asayish launched extensive arrest campaign targeting tens of young men in the villages of southern countryside of Ras al-Ayn.

Al-Ali clarified that groups from PYD including female recruits raided the houses and investigated them and distributed pamphlets for what is called self-defense duty meaning recruitment for fighting. They asked the population to send their sons of 18 to 30 of age to go to the recruitment centers.

The activist indicated that PYD checkpoints started arresting young men to send them to recruitment camps to involve them in fighting against ISIS, pointing out that a group of the party raided on Monday a wedding party in al-Dwira village and arrested males there whereas tens fled towards agriculture land fearing arrests.

PYD militias launched the biggest arrest campaign in Syria in October 2014 arresting thousands of young men to put them in fronts fighting against ISIS.
In the start of 2014, PYD announced foundation

of self-administration which has its own military and security apparatus in three cantons Efrin, Ayn al-Arab and al-Jazira north of Hasaka. Those areas remained away from regime bombings.
