Airstrike kills 20, injures scores in Iraq’s Mosul
At least 20 people were killed and scores injured in an airstrike in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul on Sunday.

A warplane struck a marketplace in al-Baaj, 140 kilometers west of Mosul, Iraqi lawmaker Zahed al-Khatoni told Anadolu Agency.

He said the death toll is expected to rise as many of the injured are in a serious condition.

It remains unclear whether the raid was carried out by an aircraft belonging to the Iraqi air forces or the U.S.-led coalition.

Mosul is currently the subject of a major offensive launched by the Iraqi army in late October to recapture the city from Daesh terrorist group.

U.S.-led coalition warplanes have been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh positions in the city as part of the offensive.

Once Iraq’s second largest city in terms of population, Mosul was overran -- along with vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq -- by Daesh in 2014.
