Over 60 deaths of regime, allied forces in 24 hours, eastern Aleppo

(Zaman AL Wasl)- At least 58 members of regime forces and allied militias were killed in 5 explosions happened in neighbourhoods of Sokari and al-Ansari in Eastern Aleppo during the last 24 hours, during a combing operation. 

Moreover, 5 members were killed in mines' explosions, those were implanted by the Syrian resistance before leaving the city, raising the number of deaths to 63 members according to Syrian observatory for human rights (SOHR) 

SOHR reported that among deaths were members of looting committees which came to Aleppo form Homs, the coastal area and regime-controlled part of Aleppo, besides dozens of wounded. 

Many of houses looters were killed when they were trying to loot houses and a school, despite warnings of Hezbollah militias to them about avoiding entering the area. 

Aleppo was the main Syria's commercial and industrial hub, but it has been divided since 2012 between regime forces in the west and rebel control in the east.

Government forces launched an offensive mid-November to control the whole city, and had seized more than 90 percent of the eastern half when the evacuation deal was reached to on December 15, 2016. 

Diplomatic efforts and several peace talks in Geneva have failed to reach to resolution of conflict, but last year, the situation witnessed a major change when Russia interfered and launched an air war to support al-Assad.

Finally, December 19, the UN Security Council had unanimously adopted a French-drafted resolution with the backing of Russia to monitor the evacuations from Aleppo that had started 3 days earlier.
