Daraa province defies challenges, still at revolution track


(Zaman Al Wasl)- The year of 2016 was difficult for the southern province of Deraa, after the victories of the resistance.

The cradle of Syria's revolution that erupted in March 2011 had endured to unprecedented assassinations of rebel commanders in 2016.

The year’s difficulties started with regime's recapturing the town of Sheikh Miskin after liberating it by the resistance 2015 and cost it more than 100 martyrs.

After the battle of Sheikh Miskin, the town was accused of treason, because of the quietness at fronts against the regime, however, the reality is that the city of Daraa had not entered any truce or compromise with the regime till the last day of the year 2016, moreover the city had witnessed a lot of clashes with some groups those wanted to go for reconciliations and truces one of them Colonel Zidane Nuseirat.

In addition, bombing the city by regime warplane, although it less frequent, but it did not stop throughout the year.

Another challenge faced the resistance in the city of Daraa the state of extremism caused by Muthanna movement, which was earlier described as a moderate faction, but it surprised everyone by allying with brigade "Martyrs of Yarmouk" who announce allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS), and considered any one disagree with them as infidel.

The alliance between "Muthanna" movement and "Martyrs of Yarmouk" which named later as "Khaled bin al-Walid Army" was about to completely control the western and north- countryside of Daraa, and clashes are still this month between the Khalid’s army and the Syrian resistance.

"Khalid Bin al-Walid Army" and the Syrian regime had during this year carried out many assassinations targeted a number of the resistance leaders, one of them was Hossam Aba-Zid, the ground commander of troupe 18. Moreover, "Khalid Army” killed Yaqub Amar, the minister of local council in the interim government and many figures of the resistance by targeting their meeting in the city of Ankhil with a bomb.

During the last three months and with escalating events in Eastern Aleppo, some factions tried to move battles to the northern countryside and the countryside of Quneitra, but the battles were not successful and about 50 fighters were killed including 10 commanders.

After the Battle of Quneitra, Another battle called “katiba Mahjora” took place near the town of Ebtaa, which also was not successful, where about 40 fighters were killed in controversial trap carried out by a by regime forces.

Although the year of 2016 as mentioned above was not as good for Daraa, it still to the last hour of the year raising the Syrian revolution flag, challenging Israel at the West, the Syrian regime to the North, Jordan to the south and Sweida to the East.
