High Negotiations Committee holds meeting in Riyadh Jan. 10

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian opposition's main political body to hold meeting in Riyadh next week to discuss the ongoing nationwide ceasefire and the upcoming Astana peace talks, sources told Zaman al-Wasl.

The Saudi-backed High Negotiations Committee (HNC) to convene next Tuesday amid discords over the role the exiled opposition since it had been neglected by main regional powers.

HNC may attend in the Russian-backed peace talks in Kazakhstan's Astana on Jan.16  if the the violations of ceasefire deal would have an end.

Riad Hijab, general coordinator for HNC said last week that confidence-building measures were needed to create an atmosphere for political transition talks which should be held in Geneva and sponsored by the United Nations.

The HNC said it wants to see a truce that covers all of Syria, in line with previous U.N. resolutions which forbid the use of banned weapons such as barrel bombs and chemical agents. Other resolutions call for all sieges to be lifted, humanitarian aid access, a halt in air strikes and no more forced displacement.
