(Zaman Al Wasl)- Islamic State fighters on Sunday have thwarted regime offensive to break a siege imposed on the strategic Tayfour military airport in Syria desert, sources said.
ISIS forces detonated an armored vehicle packed with explosives in the environs of al-Tiya’as after regime forces executed an infiltration operation on Saturday evening.
The source reported that the Islamic State managed to injure and kill several members of the regime forces and militias. The Islamic State forces also stopped the regime’s advance from the north-eastern side of the airport.
Pro-regime newspapers said the regime army and auxiliary forces, started an extensive campaign in Homs’ eastern countryside. The newspaper claimed the regime army is advancing along the north-eastern axis of the T4 airbase and east of the fourth station. According to pro-regime social media pages, the regime forces stopped their attack as they sensed the Islamic State had set up an ambush for them on the same axis.
The regime forces backed by NDF militias are pressing hard to break the T-4 siege where thousands of fighters have been deployed near Palmyra from the 10th, 11th, and 18th brigades, the Republican Guards, and auxiliary forces to break the siege and regain the oil and gas fields close to the airbase.
Meanwhile, several small villages in the Jab al-Jarrah countryside which are under Islamic State control were subject to dozens of airstrikes.
They were targeted with thermobaric missiles and cluster bombs which led to the death of an old man and woman in the village of Habra Gharbiyet. Zaman al-Wasl also documented the identities of 11 regime force members, seven of them officers, from Homs and its countryside who were killed in the recent week in various parts of Syria.
