National Coalition asked Trump's adviser to support opposition: meeting

(Zaman al-Wasl)- Syrian opposition's National Coalition delivered a political road-map last November to Donald Trump's Mideast adviser, stressing that protecting civilians and fighting the Islamic State will end up in a new Syria without Bashar al-Assad, sources told Zaman al-Wasl.

The source clarified that the meeting between the key opposition members with the
U.S. President-elect adviser Walid Phares and ten more meetings with members of congress, and the office manager of Senator John McCain, have stressed on the political support, putting Assad's ousting demand  on the drawers.

The Coalition delegation proposed a three-part plan based on protecting civilians (a ceasefire, releasing detainees…), fighting terrorist groups including the Islamic State, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, and a political solution and the transitional phase.

The delegation proposed that the three parts of the plan should happen in parallel, if they gain serious American support, and confirmed that this formulation will lead to al-Assad leaving and stop the bloodshed in Syria.

According to the information, Zaman al-Wasl obtained the Coalition representatives in the meeting with the Republic consultants did not ask for financial assistance and focused on discussing an American supported mechanism for a political solution in Syria, and how the crisis would be dealt with in Donald Trump’s term as president.
The Republic side focused on the Coalition’s relations with the regional powers, its relationship with the factions fighting inside Syria, and how much influence the Coalition can effect on these factions.

Discussions veered towards focusing on the mechanisms to fight the Islamic State forces, which the Americans consider the primary issue in the Syrian crisis, but the Coalition delegation refocused the discussions on the three part plan.

Zaman al-Wasl learnt that a new meeting with influential American politicians and administrators in the Trump administration to take place next month.
