SDF takes strategic village from ISIS near Euphrates dam

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Kurdish-led Syria Democratic Forces on Saturday took a strategic village at the banks of Euphrates dam from ISIS, activists said.

The capture of al-Suwaydiya al-Kabira from ISIS west of the group's self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa city, will tighten the noose on the radical group.

Kurdish social media pages said the siege of ISIS major pocket will facilitate the military operation that began on Nov.25, and make ISIS collapse imminent in the Raqqa countryside.

Backed by the the U.S.-led airstrikes, the YPG-led alliance of Kurds and Arabs has pushed further into the western countryside where at least 45 tiny villages have been encircled.

In a two-month offensive, the SDF has taken large areas of northern Raqqa province.

On December 10 it announced the second phase of the operation to oust the jihadists from their Syrian stronghold.
