Syrian refugees dumped alone as 'intense' storm hits Lebanon

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian refugees in Lebanese town of Arsal have been alone in the face of the Kim storm where snow has swept their tents worn tents.

Arsal hosts around 100,000 Syrian refugees 1600 distributed to 124 camps which include around 5,000 tents.

Zaman al-Wasl reporter in the area said snow started to fall on Friday afternoon amid a decrease in temperatures in the town to reach -2 degrees Celsius at sunset.

Syrian refugees face storm Kim, the second major storm to hit the country in two months, in terrible living conditions inside the camps. Most of the camps have no diesel fuel, and many of the tents have been damaged as they were installed over three years ago.

Most of the refugees in the area suffer from a severe and evident lack of winter clothing for children, the scarcity of food products, lack of blankets and pillows.
The United Nations and related authorities did not have an emergency in place to face such storms amid fears of floods further destroying the camps.

The Agricultural Research Institute in Lebanon had previously announced that a new storm, named “Kim” would hit Lebanon on Friday. The Institute indicated that the storm would cause a decrease in temperature on Friday afternoon with the arrival of an extremely cold air front. The cold air front would begin with rain, lightning and thunder, and hail to become snow storm at noon. Snow was expected to fall in areas as low as 700 meters above sea level by Friday evening.
