Damascus, Sep. 5 (SANA) The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has canceled an international alert issued in 2024 listing 24,511 Syrian passports as stolen, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Interior Col. Abdul Rahim Jabara announced Saturday.
Jabara said in a statement carried by the Ministry of Interior’s Telegram channel that the cancellation followed sustained efforts by the Interpol branch in Damascus and the International Cooperation Department, in coordination and continued communication with Interpol. The efforts established that the alert was invalid and based on inaccurate information.
He explained that the ousted regime had requested the alert in November 2024, following the liberation of Aleppo, claiming that the passports had been stolen from an immigration and passports center in the city.
The passports, however, had been duly issued and delivered to their rightful holders, Jabara said.
The alert led to the detention and confiscation of some holders’ passports in several countries, disrupting their travel and restricting their movement.
Earlier in May, A delegation from the Ministry of Interior participated in the First Global Conference on Police Communication organized by Interpol, held in the French city of Lyon.
