Damascus, Oct.15 (SANA) The Druze community in Sweida Governorate has been, and will remain, an integral and inseparable part of the national fabric of the Syrian Arab Republic, and we categorically reject any attempt to politicize this issue or involve it in Israeli propaganda and elections, Syrian government official source said on Thursday.
“There was a major and deliberate Israeli role in targeting civil peace in Sweida Governorate in July of last year by arming an outlaw militia to provoke widespread chaos and fabricate a pretext to drag the country into a full-scale war,” the source told SANA in a statement.
The source added that Syria succeeded in thwarting that plan; however, “we still witness persistent Israeli attempts to undermine the stability that has been achieved in the governorate.”
“We reaffirm that, in July of last year, Israeli bombardment—which had prevented the Syrian government from intervening to put an end to the clashes between Druze and Bedouin communities—was halted through American mediation,’ the statement affirmed.
It went on to say that Syria works steadily with its partners in the United States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to implement the trilateral roadmap for the reintegration of Sweida, in accordance with a Syrian national vision that guarantees the rights of local residents, as well as security and stability.
“We call on the international community, the United States, and countries across the region to fulfil their responsibilities and exert pressure on Israel to implement the 1974 Agreement and prevent it from interfering in the domestic affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic,’ the source concluded.
