The Syrian robotics team "SYBOTS" has achieved a new international milestone by winning the silver medal and second place in the "Achievement Award" category at the FIRST Global Challenge 2026. Hosted in Incheon, South Korea, from October 7 to 10, the event saw the participation of youth teams from approximately 190 countries.
This achievement underscores the scientific and technical potential of Syrian youth—potential that merits support and investment—at a time when the country needs to rebuild its educational and scientific capabilities and foster an environment where young talent can hone their skills and compete globally.
The significance of this result extends beyond the silver medal itself; it represents an opportunity to establish a sustainable pathway for supporting robotics, programming, and engineering. It offers a chance to bridge the gap between education and practical application, and to transform the successes of student teams into long-term institutional programs.
Syrian teams had previously achieved remarkable results at the World Robot Olympiad hosted by Singapore in 2025, securing their first-ever global gold medal in international competitions, alongside two silver medals and a bronze.
These achievements raise a question that goes beyond merely celebrating the results: Can Syria successfully transform its students' excellence in scientific competitions into a sustainable national initiative—one that provides training, funding, and laboratories, while offering talented individuals equal opportunities to compete on the global stage?
