Sweida's displaced warn against schemes to partition Syria

A statement issued on Thursday by members of tribes displaced from the Jabal al-Arab region accused Hikmat al-Hijri of receiving Israeli support and seeking to partition southern Syria. The statement called on tribal members to prepare for any potential developments, while simultaneously affirming a commitment to the decisions of the Syrian state and emphasizing the need to avoid any escalation that could threaten civil peace.

The statement noted that developments in Sweida province pose risks to Syria’s unity, accusing al-Hijri and armed groups loyal to him of coordinating with Israel and leveraging its support to pursue partitionist agendas—allegations presented in the text that could not be independently verified.

The statement urged tribal members to remain on high alert in anticipation of any actions that might be taken by the armed groups affiliated with al-Hijri, warning that any aggression targeting them or threatening stability would be met with a firm response.

Addressing the Druze community in Sweida, the statement asserted that the displaced tribes maintain their right to reclaim the lands and property they claim were seized from them. It noted that their restraint thus far stems from a commitment to the Syrian state’s directives and a desire to prevent clashes and civilian casualties.

Furthermore, the statement warned the residents of Sweida that the path pursued by al-Hijri could lead to further destruction in the governorate. It called on them to reject his tutelage, holding him responsible for what it described as agendas that threaten the future of the region. The statement emphasized a rejection of any plans for partition or secession, asserting that the territorial integrity of Syria is a priority, and concluded by reaffirming a commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Syria.

The statement was issued on behalf of the tribespeople displaced from Jabal al-Arab, dated Thursday, October 15, 2026.
