Homs: Concerns arise over historic stones of the Al-Zahrawi Palace

Eyewitnesses living in the neighborhood surrounding the Al-Zahrawi Palace in Homs confirmed to "Zaman Al-Wasl" that, after midnight on the nights of Wednesday, October 14, and Thursday, October 15, 2026, trucks transported large quantities of the historic stone known as "blue stone"—the material used in the palace’s construction.

According to the witnesses, the amount removed filled two trucks. The sound of the stones striking the trucks during the loading process caused significant disturbance to the local residents.

The witnesses further noted that the removal process was captured by surveillance cameras installed at the palace entrance by the investor.

These accounts raise concerns regarding the fate of these historic stones and the possibility that they may be repurposed for other construction projects—including those undertaken by "Al-Ta’ir" (The Bird) Company, the firm investing in the palace—at various other locations. This necessitates an investigation into the destination of the stones, how they are being handled, and whether the operation was authorized by the relevant authorities responsible for antiquities and cultural heritage.

Should these details be confirmed, the incident brings the issue of protecting the Al-Zahrawi Palace and its historic architectural components back to the forefront. It underscores the necessity for any restoration or investment work to be subject to oversight by the competent authorities, ensuring the palace’s authenticity is preserved. This includes preventing the removal or unauthorized reuse of its historic elements, as well as safeguarding other historic palaces currently under investment by "Al-Ta’ir" Company.
