Damascus, Oct. 19 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa has issued Decree No. 189 of 2026 appointing Basel Abdul Aziz Abdul Hannan as minister of industry, internal trade and consumer protection.
Hannan was born in Aleppo in 1985. He holds a bachelor’s degree in energy engineering from the University of Aleppo, which he obtained in 2009.
He has completed advanced courses in economic feasibility studies, strategic planning and human resources management. He previously lectured at the university’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and worked in engineering industries in Aleppo’s Sheikh Najjar industrial zone.
He also worked in the industry administration in the liberated areas.
From 2020 until the liberation of Syria, he served as minister of economy and resources in the Salvation Government. He subsequently oversaw the ministries of industry and economy and foreign trade in the caretaker government.
