Homs: Regime allows civilians of besieged Houla region to exit

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime opened a cross point in al-Houla region on Monday to exit besieged civilians in Homs northern countryside to regime-controlled areas following agreement between regime and a delegate from al-Houla,  sources said.

The sources added that the cross point will be in al-Samaleel village and will open from 7 until 4 for goods and employees and students. A checkpoint was installed at the end of the village monitored by the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

A regime checkpoint lies 500 m away from the Homs-Misyaf road. All the passersby go through inspection by both checkpoints. If the civilian was wanted by the regime, the regime gives the person two choices either to return to his town or to settle his situation with the regime.

FSA officer said the process of the cross point is very similar to that implemented in al-Dar al-Kabira village cross point formerly opened by regime last year.

The officer added that food items can be entered from al-Samaleel cross point for those who want to travel to Damascus or Homs for treatment. The cross point will also contribute in decreasing prices of food items and specifically bread.

Al-Houla area was exposed to more than 15 air raids during the past three days leading to killing and injuring of 26 children and seniors. The regime promised to implement ceasefire in al-Houleh area as soon as the cross point opens.

In another context, Disaster Management Committee teams in Syrian Red Crescent in Homs was able to enter an aid convoy to besieged Talbiseh on Sunday in cooperation with UN and International Red Cross Committee.

Sources from the Syrian Red Crescent branch in Talbiseh said the convoy included several trucks carrying tons of flour and food baskets, medical supplies, hygiene materials sufficient for 50000 people for a month.

The UN convoy is considered the first to enter Homs northern countryside during 2017 and the first to enter besieged areas in Syria in 2017.
