(Zaman al-Wasl)- During a prisoner swap on the outskirts of Hama, Rasha Sharbaji from Daraya was released few days ago.
Rasha spent around three years in Assad prisons. She was a mother of three children before she was detained and became mother of five. She had a twin in the prison following her detention.
Rasha during her media appearance seemed consistent and conscious which sparked doubts of some observers regarding torture in Assad prisoners. This is important matter and it should be explained.
For those who saw in Rasha’s talk a wash for Assad crimes or doubting the truth of torture and rape inside Assad prisons, it is sufficient to think about detaining a human being without any crime or reason for three years. It is sufficient to think of taking a mother away from her children including two newly born babies to know what type of criminal and oppressor Assad regime is. This is if we do not ask you to follow up some confessions of the rest of detainees where rape perhaps was the first of their tortures which usually end in killing. We should think of the 130000 Syrian detainees in Sadnaya prison who were killed under torture since the outbreak of the revolution until last year. This is for whoever found in Rasha’s talk an improvement for the image of killers.
Rasha’s release came in conjunction with disputes among the Syrian opposition to form a collective delegate to meet Bashar al-Assad in Geneva round 4 which is expected to meet on February 20. The meeting will come out with a quota deal and was rejected by Cairo and Moscow platforms due to the small representation with one negotiator for each one of them.
Opposition stresses again for the thousand time that dragging it to corridors of details away from the main issue is easier to put efforts in. It is enough for a sponsor state to claim love for Syrians and at the same time spark ambitions of anyone who is sick to go after his own interest instead of national interest.
The opposition breeds more delegates and new platforms not very distant from Assad and Hezbollah for Assad to remain in power in order for his inheritance to last forever. That aims to foil Geneva 4 if the delegate was formed and the conference took place.
In short, opposition delegates which give regime legitimacy suffer for the simplest reason of having to sit and negotiate with the regime. They suffer from lack of women representation or perhaps its absence and it shows that the opposition is patriarchal and exclusive, and Islamist.
So there is no harm that Rasha Sharbaji heads the negotiation delegate and accepts to be the head of the delegate. She is cultured and knows English. She lived in regime prisons and lived under its oppression. She is also from Daraya which suffered more than any other Syrian city with starvation, killing, blockade and forced displacement and demographic change.
Perhaps Rasha heading the delegate will put Assad’s delegate in a bad place and reveal all lies and claims trying to wash their crimes. She might and in English communicate Assad crimes to the world via media outlets.
Also, Rasha heading the delegate facilitates opening the dossier of detainees and victims of torture and it is the best weapon for the opposition which might give it power so it would not fall in Assad trap but transfer him to international courts as a war criminal using what has been revealed about Saydnaya prison.
Perhaps national interest lies in the opposition rejecting negotiation in the first place because international efforts show a will to only buy time and the American stand wants to legitimate the criminal gang. However, these conditions force Syrians to have to be political meaning that any start of a political solution will be the end of Assad regime and Assad knows this truth and is escaping it in every way possible even if he had to sell the rest of Syria to occupation or even do explosions inside Qirdaha.
