(Zaman Al Wasl)- The task command of Russia's Hemeimem military air base said Saturday the Russian fighter jets had targeted the southern province of Daraa with 340 raids in the past 5 days.
In a statement posted on the base official Facebook page, Russia said “our bombers carried out 340 raids during 5 days in that region which equals 30 days of aerial backup for palace guards’ units deployed in Deir ez-Zor and its military airport.”
The statement affirmed that Russia is refusing accusations talking about "shortening support by Russian air force for friendly forces south of Syria."
Syrian regime and Russia extended the aerial campaign on Daraa as an alliance of 35 rebel and Islamist factions fight to take the biggest district in the city from army and its its allied militias, activists said Friday.
The Free Syrian Army fighters said on Wednesday at least 36 regime troops, including 11 officers, have been killed and 50 more have been wounded in al-Manshiya clashes that began on Saturday.
A statement issued on Friday named the factions participating in the battles, including Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, led by former al-Qadea offshoot -formerly known as the Nusra Front- and Ahrar al-Sham and Jaish al-Islam and 32 more factions.
In its turn, the regime forces have also claimed killing 32 rebel fighters, including members of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.
Al-Manshiya that turned into regime largest barrack in Darra is a home for 20,000 people who enjoyed over two year of calm since the freeze of fighting in the southern city.
The teaching was suspended in the schools of southern Daraa city since Tuesday as regime warplanes have randomly pounding Dara and its countryside.
