170 rebel fighters evacuated from Damascus suburbs to Idlib

(Zaman al-Wasl)- 170 rebel fighters on Monday have evacuated the mountainous town of Sargaya at the Lebanese border to northern Idlib province due to a Russian-brokered deal with the Syrian regime, activists said.

The regime prepared several buses to transport around 170 fighters with their families from the town situated in the western Damascus countryside heading towards Idlib province.

During the recent months, the regime used the weapon of deals and reconciliation effectively giving rebels choice to leave any besieged or targeted area and usually fighters leave to Idlib.

Previously, regime used the same reconciliation scenario in Darya, al-Tal, Wadi Barada, Khan al-Sheeh in Damascus countryside where the regime depends settlements that include evacuation of those who want to exit these regions. For those who stay, they need to pledge loyalty to regime.

The hypothesis of imposing a demographic change in Syria comes more true with the continuation of forcible displacement of Syrian fighters and their families especially in Damascus and Damascus countryside where Iranian militias have power in particular Hezbollah which certainly wants to put away Sargaya as a big victory and in this sense it secures its sectarian strongholds away from any targeting in Lebanon.
