Assailants kidnap FSA commander near Atareb, Aleppo

(Zaman al-Wasl)- Thuwar al-Atarib Group said unknown armed group had kidnapped Syrian army defector Major Anas Ibrahim Abu Zaid on Thursday near al-Atarib city in western Aleppo countryside.

Media professional Yousef Obaid in the group told Zaman al-Wasl they accuse Hayat Tahrir al-Sham to be behind the kidnapping of the major since they were involved before in arresting prominent leaders in (FSA).

Obaid indicated that the Hayat wants to control civil institutions in al-Atarib city, the only city under civil rule not military rule.

According to Obaid, Sharia courts in the western countryside as well as the factions in the area denied presence of the major there.
Zaman al-Wasl contacted leaders in Tahrir al-Sham but they did not respond to the kidnapping.

The Syrian jihadist group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS), known as al-Nusra Front until it broke off formal ties with al-Qaeda last July, has merged with four smaller Syrian factions and rebranded itself as "Tahrir al-Sham".
