Clashes intensify in Daraa city, regime warplanes conduct 15 raids

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Clashes have intensified Thursday in southern Daraa city between rebels and regime army that backed by a heavy airstrikes to capture a strategic neighborhood, activists said.

The regime jets conducted 15 raids and dropped 6 barrel bombs on al-Manshiya neighborhood, the regime’s largest barrack in Daraa  and which is a home for 20,000 people, according to residents and field activists.

The death toll of regime bombing topped 100 people and rebel fighters since clashes erupted early February.

The task command of Russia's Hemeimem military air base said last Saturday the Russian fighter jets had targeted the southern province of Daraa with 340 raids in the past 5 days.

In a statement posted on the base official Facebook page, Russia said “our bombers carried out 340 raids during 5 days in that region which equals 30 days of aerial backup for palace guards’ units deployed in Deir ez-Zor and its military airport.”

The statement affirmed that Russia is refusing accusations talking about "shortening support by Russian air force for friendly forces south of Syria."

A statement issued last week by rebels named the factions participating in the battles, including Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, led by former al-Qadea offshoot -formerly known as the Nusra Front- and Ahrar al-Sham and Jaish al-Islam and 32 more factions.

Meanwhile, the teaching is still suspended in the schools of Daraa as regime warplanes have been pounding the city and its countryside. The border Jordanian city of Ramtha has also suspended the teaching process on Thursday, Jordan-run news agency said.
