Syria: Two killed in mortar attack on church and school

At least two people were killed in a mortar attack on a church and a Christian school in the Syrian capital Damascus, activists said on Monday.

The two shells were fired on the city's al-Qasssaa quarter and struck the Church of the Cross and St John's school, activists from the Local Coordinating Committees said.

There was no immediate information on the identities of those killed in the attack or if other people were wounded.

A mortar attack earlier in the day on the Jaramana suburb of Damascus killed a man and his four children, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The missile hit the man's car, injuring three other people inside the vehicle including his wife, according to the UK-based monitoring group.

Syria's state news agency Sana reported the mortar strike in the Jaramana district of the capital but said three children had died in the attack.
