Rebels shut main crossing between Yarmouk camp, Yalda in southern Damascus


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebel factions in southern Damscus suburbs of Yalda shut down the only crossing with the besieged Yarmouk Camp over security concerns, accusing  ISIS of targeting civilians.

 Zaman's local reporter in southern Damascus said that the military factions in Yalda have closed the crossing point of Oroba between Yalda and Yarmouk Camp due to sniping civilians by members of the Islamic State that controlling parts of Yarmouk camp.

The correspondent added that even after closing the crossing point, ISIS’s elements kept targeting civilians in al-Nakheel Street near the barrier which led to many injuries among civilians, especially after severe clashes between the Syrian resistance and the Islamic State near the barrier followed by sounds of explosive bombs.

Orooba barriers is the only humanitarian crossing point for civilians and students in Yarlouk Camp to other southern Damascus areas controlled by the Syrian opposition, especially Yalda, Babila and Beit Saham.

The Islamic State had imposed its control over most area of Yarmouk camp for Palestinian Refugee camp after battles with the brigade of Aknaf Bait al-Maqdis of the free Syrian Army (FSA) April 2015, then they started battle Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly Nusra Front, few months prior to almost controlling the whole area of the camp. In the same time, the Syrian regime's forces have been besieging Yarmouk refugee camp for nearly 4 years within a campaign known at the time as "hunger till kneel" to suppress people of the camp to and force them to surrender.

Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees, has been the largest collection of Palestinians refuges in Syrian. In June 2002, there were 112,550 registered refugees living in Yarmouk camp, but after the Syrian revolution and controlling the camp by the Islamic state in 2014 early 2015, the number of residents dropped to 20,000 people.
