Rebel groups launch two major attacks in Latakia province

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 6 rebel groups operating in coastal Latakia province  launched major attack on regime forces said its in retaliation to a chemical attack on the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun that left 86 people dead.

Powerful Haya't Tahrir al-Sham, led by former al-Qaeda group, has also launched new offensive in Jabal al-Turkman and Jabal al-Akrad, an array of mountainous hills at the border with Turkey.

Meanwhile, autopsy results have revealed that chemical weapons were used in Khan Sheikhoun's attack, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag told reporters Thursday.

Thirty-two victims of Tuesday's attack have been brought to Turkey and three have subsequently died.

U.S. President Donald Trump accused al-Assad's regime of going "beyond a red line" with the poison gas attack on civilians and said his attitude toward Syria and Assad had changed.

in his turn, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Thursday the regime forces "did not and will not" use chemical weapons, even against extremist groups.

"I stress to you once again: the Syrian army has not, did not and will not use this kind of weapons -- not just against our own people, but even against the terrorists that attack our civilians with their mortar rounds," he said. (With agencies)
